Third Reich Army? Officers Dagger-WKC

This dagger is quite an anomaly, suggesting service in an-as yet-undiscovered branch of the service. Most notable difference to an army dagger is the grip. It is wood based and covered in a blue Moroccan leather. Twin, twisted silver wire is then bound around the grip in a continuous band starting high left. Secondly, the overall finish of the dagger is plain grey, the whole showing no trace of any finish even in the intricate recesses of the crossguard. Finally, the hanging straps which came with the dagger are the standard army pattern but with straps having twin blue line vertical adornment and high pile dark blue velvet backings. No damage to the 12 leaf pommel and with a minor chip to the grip which is covered by the correctly tied, period original portepee. Crossguard is the classic WKC design having tremendous detail to the eagle and wreath/swastica depiction. A brown leather washer is in place beneath the crossguard. Blade has some mild age spotting but crossgrain visible throughout its length, the WKC knights head logo is prominently placed to the reverse ricasso. Scabbard has no damage and securely attached scabbard bands. Throat is a push fit, having no securing screws. As mentioned, hangers utilise standard army pattern hardware which suffers some minor oxidation.
An interesting piece worthy of further investigation.
