Third Reich “Erased Röhm” SA Dagger-Pack
This piece has attributes that many collectors love-an almost complete covering of Nicotine patina, almost certainly from being displayed on the wall of a smoke filled hobby room, attic or cellar, and a superb grip. Removing the dagger from the scabbard reveals a ring of untarnished nickel on the underside of the lower fitting from where the scabbard throat has protected the finish. For anyone prepared to clean the nicotine coating one would imagine the fittings to be near mint, however leaving “as found” would probably be the kindest option.
Dagger has never been apart, having no marks to the tang nut, and a fit between crossguards and grip which is almost indiscernible. SA rune and “high necked” eagle are perfectly inset in the unmistakable “Pack” grip. This grip has a beautiful “Tiger Stripe” grain running through it and is near perfect. Lower crossguard has the gruppe mark “Nm” to the obverse. Bright blade has a sharp tip and no damage, having a crisp “Alles Für Deutschland” motto to the obverse. Reverse has had the offending Röhm inscription totally removed leaving only the ghost of letters in a couple of places. This energetic removal has eaten into the Pack logo, leaving only the lower half of the Siegfried figure and the location “Solingen”
Scabbard fittings are similarly covered in nicotine but appear undamaged. All screws are present. Scabbard finish may have been compromised by the nicotine but without cleaning it is hard to tell.
Fine “Woodwork” fully erased Röhm SA dagger.
