Third Reich SS Erased Röhm Dagger-Eickhorn with Vertical Hanger
Superb “woodwork” fully ground SS Röhm dagger having the possibility for further research and potentially identification of the original owner.
Beautiful ebony grip has perfectly inset runes button and eagle, and fits the upper and lower guards like a glove. Solid nickel crossguards are in perfect condition having deep accent grooves and a pleasing age patina. Tang nut has almost “grown” into the upper guard indicating that this dagger has never been apart. There are minor indications of tool marks on the nut, however it would appear that this attempt at disassembly was unsuccessful. Lower guard has the Berlin distribution centre mark “111” to the reverse centre, and two sets of numbers to the underside:
“14892” and “52505”, the latter having lines scratched through it, indicating perhaps re-issue.
Bright blade has some surface smudging to both sides and a deeply etched “Meine Ehre Heisst Treue” motto to the obverse. Reverse blade has the small scale Eickhorn 33-35 trademark stamped close to the crossguard, as is correct for Röhm daggers. There is virtually no evidence of the Röhm dedication remaining. Black “anodised” scabbard has no dents or other damage and has nickel fittings with all screws present. Lower fitting has some denting to the ball. Completing the piece is a black leather vertical hanger designed to prevent the dagger swinging during marching or field exercises. This early hanger has a functioning pre RZM swivel spring clip in which is a black leather belt loop having a magnetic “D” ring.
Fabulous example which has never been cleaned with the distinct possibility of further research.
