Third Reich First Model RLB Officers Dagger-Weyersberg

Rare1st Model RLB Leaders dagger having all nickel fittings. Blade has all the crossgrain and is in wonderful condition having no damage to the edges and a needle like tip. The Weyersberg logo is stamped prominently to the reverse ricasso. Leather covered grip is in near perfect condition with the first pattern RLB “Starburst” insignia securely fastened to the obverse face. This insignia has undamaged enamel, and the majority of its silvering remaining. Nickel crossguard has no damage and a small waffenampt to the right hand arm. The crossguard eagle has the clear eye and brow features that really give this series of daggers that impressive “Art Deco” look which make them such a collector favourite. A thin leather blade washer is present beneath the crossguard.
Undented scabbard has a fine leather covering with some almost indiscernible pressure hits commensurate with age. Lower scabbard fitting has some minor compression damage, whilst the upper fitting has a small waffenampt to the throat. The short leather hanger is complete and undamaged, having an “OLC” marked spring clip. This hanger is often missing as it was a poor design unable to cope adequately with the weight and swing wear of this dagger. All scabbard screws are present.
Most early first model daggers were converted to second model pieces by the addition of a chained scabbard, hence the rarity of unaltered first models.
Excellent, early quality piece missing from even the most advanced collections.
